A. Training of the WHO fellows and others from the Region

The Collaborating Centre is a coveted institution for training in neonatology and newborn nursing. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India recognized the collaborating centre as one of centers of Excellence in India (in the year 2000) for WHO fellowship training. Each year, fellows (Doctors & Nurses) from India and South East Asia countries come for training in neonatology & newborn nursing.

B. Collaboration with other countries in the Region

AIIMS WHO-CC has created SEARnet database, for the Alpha form in which user can enter data for inborn live births, fetal deaths, and outborn live births and Beta form in which one can enter data for malformations. These two simple forms have the essential focused on generating prospective information leading to new insights on neonatal and perinatal mortality in the region. Each SEAR country has its unique user name and password which are communicated by individual mails. This database automatically generates the discharge summary. SEARnet Database uses JAVA technology for front end and using MS SQL Server for storing the data as backend.

Nepal

Established a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a Maternal Intensive care unit of 8 beds each at the Paropkar Maternity Hospital, Kathmandu through Government of India funds. Initiated searNET database for neonatal perinatal and birth defects in Nepal. Facilitated e-Learning courses for nurses and Doctors.

Bangladesh

Conducted workshops on Neonatal Resuscitation and Essential Newborn Care in Dhaka in the year 1998. These workshops were instrumental in initiating the NRP movement in that country.

Training of Trainers Workshops on Essential Newborn Nursing and Neonatal Ventilation were conducted in Dacca in the year 2003 - 2004. Initiated searNET database for neonatal perinatal and birth defects by creating national centres network. Facilitated e-Learning courses for nurses and doctors.

Myanmar

Dr. San San Myint of the Central Women's Hospital Yangon initiated the neonatal resuscitation programme in Myanmar in consultation with the Collaborating Centre. Created a team of Pediatricians for collection of neonatal perinatal and birth defects.

Maldives

Conducted workshops on Neonatal Resuscitation and Essential Newborn Care for pediatricians in Maldives. Provided support for capacity building for Neonatal Unit at Indira Gandhi Hospital, Male. Helped in establishing protocols for NICU and facilitated WHO ENC course TOT in 2010.

Indonesia

The collaborating centre faculty have conducted Neonatal resuscitation and Neonatal Ventilation training for Pediatricians from different Universities across Indonesia 2005. Provided technical support for establishing newborn intensive care.

Srilanka

Helped in establishing CPAP and newborn ventilation facilities in the country in partnership with SCLP, Srilanka, Nurses participated in e-Learning courses on ONTOP.
